Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA)

The Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) best-practice guide, established by Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) is a comprehensive management system which aims at helping Tanker Operators to achieve the highest standards of ship's safety and environmental management and continuoual improvement.

It makes a clear distinction between the ship owners that merely aim to comply with the minimum requirements of the ISM code and those that embrace the spirit of the Code.

As a tanker manager committed to continual improvement, GEM supports the TMSA guidelines. On a regular basis GEM reviews its status with respect to TMSA Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and submits it to OCIMF.

Through its TMSA initiatives GEM clearly demonstrate that its management approach, both ashore and afloat, is systematically and continuously directed at improving the quality of its operations and making its ships safer.

The Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) programme provides GEM with a means to improve and measure the management systems. The results from these self assessments are used to develop an improvement plan, using the stages of attainment described in the programme, to achieve safety and environmental excellence.
