Safety, protection of the environment, quality, and a healthy working culture is an integral part of GEM’s Mission Statement and Corporate Objectives.
GEM operates an integrated management system which comprises of Safety, Environment, Quality and Health procedures.
GEM office in Dubai, UAE, and all fleet vessels has been certified for ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO 14001:2015 Environment Management System (EMS) as an integrated system with the International Safety Management (ISM) code.
ISO certifications demonstrate GEMs reputation as an effective and environmentally sound player in the tanker industry.
The scope of these certifications include ‘Operational and technical management of a fleet of petroleum and chemical tankers, trading worldwide incorporating the pollution prevention requirements of the IMO Resolution A 741(18) – The ISM Code’.
Both ISO 9001-2015 QMS and ISO 14001-2015 EMS certification are internationally recognized credentials that are awarded to companies who meet or exceed a standard for continually improving quality and environmental performance. These certifications represent an international consensus and recognition by the authorized independent certification body of GEM’s commitment to ensure the effectiveness, efficiency and continual improvement of its QMS and EMS.
Safety is top priority through-out GEM’s operations. The company monitors and reviews the safety management system on a regular basis to ensure compliance to company and international requirements.
GEM continually strives to accomplish environmental excellence in all aspects of its business operations. One of the purposes of GEM’s Environmental Management System (EMS) is to continually control and monitor the environmental risks with respect to emissions, residues, consumption and recycling. Protection of the marine environment is a priority and a duty.
In GEM, error prevention has priority over error rectification thus contributing to HSE performance, customer satisfaction and enhancing economic viability. Thus aim of GEM’s Quality Management System is to continually improve its work processes.
GEM has well established guidelines to ensure healthy living and working conditions. These guidelines are integrated within GEM’s Safety, Environment and Quality Management system.
The Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) best-practice guide, established by Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) is a comprehensive management system which aims at helping Tanker Operators to achieve the highest standards of ship’s safety and environmental management and continuoual improvement.
It makes a clear distinction between the ship owners that merely aim to comply with the minimum requirements of the ISM code and those that embrace the spirit of the Code.
As a tanker manager committed to continual improvement, GEM supports the TMSA guidelines. On a regular basis GEM reviews its status with respect to TMSA Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and submits it to OCIMF.
Through its TMSA initiatives GEM clearly demonstrate that its management approach, both ashore and afloat, is systematically and continuously directed at improving the quality of its operations and making its ships safer.
The Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) programme provides GEM with a means to improve and measure the management systems. The results from these self assessments are used to develop an improvement plan, using the stages of attainment described in the programme, to achieve safety and environmental excellence.
